Solar Panels Disguised As Roof Slate

Solar Panels Disguised As Roof Slate
A new solar panel that would get planning approval on protected traditional buildings and in conversation areas has been launched that blends in with existing roof slate.

The challenge was to create an efficient solar panel that looked like a traditional roof slate.

A design team experimented with frosted glass. They sandblasted grits of different sizes, using different speeds and pressures, until the desired finish was achieved.

The glass not only covers the solar cells and stops the slate looking shiny, but gives a finish very similar to natural slate. Behind the glass front-plate is the latest PVC technology.

Solar Slate is similar in shape, size and weight to the most common English slate. Secured with normal roof hooks, it can be installed by a skilled roofer.

All planning applications have been approved where Solar Slate has been specified. The average cost is lb40 per slate plus electrical equipment and installation.
