Solar Panels Better Than A Pension

Solar Panels Better Than A Pension
With a yield of up to 8% ROI, solar panels have now been deemed 'better than a pension' by energy minister Greg Barker. With a constant decrease in install costs and energy prices on the rise, meaning the typical rates for return have remained at a consistent 5-8% a year.

Given that the return on annuities has fallen in recent years, Barker has explained that 'in some circumstances, they will get a higher return then putting the money into an annuity'.

Today, the average domestic installation would cost you around lb4,500 as opposed to 2010, when the average installation was priced at lb13,000. Even though the Government backed Feed-In Tariff was cut in 2012, the scheme still continues to provide an attractive subsidy for investors.

'The minister's financial argument is part of an attempt to improve the image of renewable energy sources, which are unpopular with some voters and many conservative MPs.' James Kirkup, The Telegraph.
